With my editor, we chose to produce a small-format book with minimal embellishments – albeit well crafted, to keep the price low and create a democratic object. The subject of this book, Yousef, is considered a co-author and will receive royalties.
Born in Gaza is a visual archive created in collaboration with Yousef Shurrab, an 18-year-old Palestinian who fled Gaza after several months of mass violence. Through his intimate testimony, the book traces the life of a young man who grew up amid mass violence and is now searching for meaning and stability. Rooted in the present, it explores memory, resilience, and exile – the experience of a generation shaped by loss and death. Conceived as a visual archive, Born in Gaza brings together excerpts of texts, photographs, and visual works created by both authors, forming a reflective visual dialogue between Yousef and me.
Founded by William Keo and Yegan Mazandarani, Four Eyes Editions is based on the idea of cross-views. After years of working in fine book publishing, photography, fashion, music, video production, advertising, event organization, and artistic support, their aim is to create objects with authors selected for the originality of their approach, the quality of their work, its relevance, and its aesthetic potential. Their editorial line is driven by curiosity, elegance, and the friendships created through collaboration.
